Is it true that the locals in Durham hate students?
As in any walk of life, some students are idiots, and it is these that the locals who understandably dislike. They are a small minority, however, and a majority of students get on well with locals. Students shouldn’t go out into town on a Friday night with college clothing on or in a t-shirt and jeans, but they’d be ill advised to do so anywhere in any town centre on a Friday night. More and more bars, pubs and clubs are opening in Durham every year in which students and locals alike eat, drink and be generally merry.In fact Geordies, like most Northerners, are incredibly friendly people, even if some students from the south can’t understand what they are saying, and the only students who have trouble with locals who those who go round asking for it.
