So yeah I went through this for my spouse and I and the process was smoother than I expected. I used https://atozdocuments.com/services/apostille/ and they walked me through what to bring (original certificate, notarization if needed, etc). The staff answered my questions without making me feel stupid, and they followed up when the document was sent to the state office.
