Portuguese flag?
Well, I should know this one, because I am Portuguese and had the same doubt some years ago. There are a lot of explanations for the meaning of our flag. The most common one is the one that follows. The red which is the largest part of the flag means the blood of all the Portuguese that fought to defend and serve the country. The green are the green fields and hope. However, the colours are surrounded by some mistery as no one is sure what they mean. I can tell you that this flag replaced the monarchic one in 1910, so IMO the red and green colour must have something to do with the Republic. You will find different opinions regarding the colours of the flag. But the one I gave you is the most common one. The ball in the middle is called armillary sphere (esfera armilar), which represents the world that we unveiled during the Ages of Discoveries.
