Should Children Really Get Drug Therapy For Cholesterol? The new recommendations, apparently stimulated by growing concern over childhood obesity and the potential for premature cardiovascular disease, call for the much earlier and more widespread usage of lipid lowering drugs – especially statins – in pre-adolescents. These recommendations seem a “tad” aggressive to many observers, including many pediatricians and cardiologists, who have already begun to protest loudly about them.
