Was Death Note originally made in English?
Japanese students have english class, like we have a spanish class or french class. It’s quite normal in a Japanese English class to ask students to translate a difficult english sentence into Japanese to test their comprehension, which is what Light’s teacher is doing in that scene. It is common for the Japanese to include English words into their daily lives. Often they use it incorrectly (see engrish.com). They especially use it in advertising. The Death Note being written in English is the creators trying to be edgy and cool. Death Note was most definitely created in Japanese. The authors are native Japanese, why would they create something in English? They’ve done other series, like Hikaru no Go, and right now they’re currently working on Bakuman. Death Note was first a manga published in Weekly Shonen Jump, then it was turned into an anime.
