Obviously, there can be other issues, but for the following reasons we would probably recommend splitting the database into a table database which might have a few populated tables and a data only database. The populated tables included in the table database would be only those not referenced often (like Company information). Reasons are: • Speed of access. Data transferred over a local network generally have a transfer speed of 100 MB instead of the less than 1MB of most DSL’s. Even allowing for local traffic, real time improvements of several orders of magnitude are common. • Security. In today’s world of hackers, data received by a local area network in an encrypted format and stored on LAN servers help reduce exposure to Internet mischief.
