What alcoholic beverages have 0 calories?
Alcohol has ca. 7 calories per gram, as compared with 9 in fat and 4 in carbohydrates and protein. So as you can see, alcohol is very energy-intensive. In most alcoholic beverages the main source of energy is indeed the alcohol, not the sugars (although in some alcoholically weak but sweet drinks such as alcopops or sweet cider the reverse may be true). Of course you can cut down on the amount of calories by drinking rum with Diet Coke instead of regular Coke; by drinking ‘low carb’ beers; etc., but you are still getting a significant amount of calories in the form of alcohol. And contrary to popular belief, there is no correlation between the colour of the drink and it’s energy content!
