What are some common “compulsions” in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)?
Compulsions are the extreme behaviours a person has in response to their obsessions. Examples include excessive cleaning or washing, repeatedly checking (i.e. making sure the stove was turned off), ordering or arranging, or mental rituals such as praying, counting, or repeating words. These are often the behaviours that prevent people with OCD from being able to function as well in their day-to-day lives.
