What are some health concerns related to the Mastiff breed?
All breeds have different health related issues. The Mastiff is no different. But getting your dog from a breeder whose dogs are tested greatly increases the chance that you will have a happy and healthy companion for years to come. Here are some of the most common problems that need to be addressed in the Mastiff breed: PRA or Progressive Retinal Atrophy is a degenerative disease of the retina which will ultimately lead to blindness. It is passed through on to offspring genetically. There is testing now available so that your dog can be tested BEFORE s/he is bred so you can be assured that any puppies born won’t be afflicted.
