What are the advantages of CT and MR Angiograms?
Both CT and MR Angiography take approximately 15 minutes while a conventional Angiogram takes approximately an hour or more. Additionally, contrast for the MR and CT studies are injected intravenously through an arm vein. In contrast, conventional angiography utilitzes a long catheter inserted typically through the groin artery. This entails signifcantly more risk to the patient. Additionally, MR and CT angiography are performed in an outpatient setting. Conventional angiography is performed in the hospital angiography suite with significantly increased cost.
