What are the advantages of DVD over videotape or laserdisc?
DVDs offer a better picture and sound than either videotape or laserdisc. They have 500 lines of resolution compared to videotape’s 250, and they feature multi-channel audio tracks. In addition, because a feature-length movie will typically fit on just one side of a DVD, the DVD is able to offer a whole host of extra goodies you wouldn’t get on laser or video – like commentary by directors and stars, optional subtitles (typically Spanish and/or French), interactive menus, and additional language tracks.
