What Are The Causes Of Obesity In Children?
Major changes over the past 20 to 30 years have occurred in people’s daily diet/eating habits and their lifestyles. The three major causes of obesity are: Poor diet – Family meals are mostly prepared from processed foods high in calories and low in nutrition. Many families today lack the time and resources to make healthy eating a family priority. Rather than preparing meals with fresh vegetables, packaged and frozen dinners are served. Lack of exercise – Most child play activities of the past have been replaced with sitting around watching TV or playing games on computers and handheld devices. Children who spend the most number of hours in front of a TV have the highest incidence of obesity. Genetics – Family history can play a major part in whether your child will be overweight or obese. Twenty-five to forty percent of children inherit the tendency towards overweight from their parents.
