What Are The Characteristics Of Peridot?
The ideal color of Peridot is a rich green, but some Peridots are yellowish green, greenish yellow or brown. The premium colors of Peridot generally contain about 10 to 15 percent iron. Peridot tends to look god under all lights, it is not as light dependent as red and blue gems. Because Peridot is not an expensive stone, eye-clean clarity is the standard. Peridots range in price from about $50 to $80 per carat and for well cut gems in the 1 to 2 carat size they range in price from $400 to $450 per carat. Peridot has never been synthesized but a number of imitations do exist, including natural stones such as tourmaline and man-made imitations such as glass. Green glass is the most common imitation and can be easily separated by its single refraction. Resources: WWW.GALLERIES.COM WWW.GEMSTONE.ORG WWW.BERNARDINE.
