What are the premises of the SIRENA device networking framework?
Given the tendencies towards the adoption of high-level communication functionality in intelligent devices, the SIRENA framework providing such device networking functionality is anticipated to be organised around the following architectural principles and characteristics. 1. It shall define a distributed, open networking architecture for pervasive network connectivity of intelligent devices and applications. Intelligent (or “smart”) devices have sufficient built-in processing and storage capacity to be self-sufficient and to operate autonomously when required, i.e. without the need for a centralised structure based on master-slave relationships. This shall allow for direct, peer-to-peer communication. Simple devices with restricted capabilities will also be considered. 2. It shall address a wide variety of device and service types from a wide range of vendors in multiple application sectors, notably including industrial automation, automotive electronics and home automation. 3. It sha
