I read in a book about the Napoleonic Era that of one of the really strange contributing factor for the Reign of Terror was this and I do not know if it is factual but here it is. There were heavy rains and it caused a growth of a fungus in the wheat harvest that year. The bread that the commoners ate was contaminated by the fungus which causes them all to act crazy.
