What causes vertebral subluxations?
Almost any fall or accident could cause a subluxation, so could poor posture and other physical stresses, such as repetitive motions, birth trauma and improper sleeping. Chemical stresses including smoking, alcohol abuse, not drinking enough water, improper diet, or the overuse of drugs or medications can cause vertebral subluxations. And lastly, emotional stresses such as financial burden, loss of a loved one, and divorce are amongst the thousands of other things that will cause a subluxation. In fact, almost everyone gets subluxations at some time or another, often in childhood. Unless these subluxations are corrected, we spend our entire life being less than we could be. Having your spine checked regularly for vertebral subluxations is a major factor in maintaining optimal body function and maximizing your performance in all areas of your life at all times.
If it was possible to eliminate the causes of vertebral subluxations we would not need chiropractic and the world would be a better place to live as subluxations affect the mind as well as the body; in that way chiropractic helps having a better world. We can list three causes to subluxations: physical, chemical and emotional. The physical origin is the more obvious: all the traumatisms that the body can’t neutralize and which produces directly or indirectly a vertebral subluxation – by definition a slight vertebral misalignment which impinges upon the nerves and determines a consequent interference with the mental impulse traveling back and forth between brain and tissue cells. They can be whiplash type of injury, violent accidents of all kinds but most often only repetitive apparently harmless falls from push bike, ski or swing from childhood to adulthood – this explains why vertebral subluxations are so common. The chemical origin is constituted by all the poisons absorbed through t
With children, subluxations often occur during the birth process. All of the pulling, pushing and twisting on the newborn’s neck and spine during the birth process often cause one or more vertebra to be pushed out of place, resulting in subluxations. As we grow up, subluxations are caused daily by falls, sports activities, accidents/injuries, bad posture, physical and emotional stress and many other things. By having a chiropractor correct these subluxations throughout your childhood and the rest of your life, your family can achieve an improved quality of life.
