What does it mean to submit content for Exclusive Work for Hire rights?
Some Calls for Content™ on behalf of our partners may be required to be submitted for Work for Hire rights. This will be clearly stated in the details of the call and in step 1 of the submission process. Under Work for Hire rights, the hiring party (either AC or an AC partner) becomes the author of the work for copyright purposes, and all of the attributes of copyright ownership – including credit and control – vest in the hiring party, not the creator. The copyright only transfers to the hiring party upon payment of the writer/creator. These rights are essentially identical to Exclusive rights, except they allow for Associated Content to easily pass the full copyright of your content to its content partners. This type of agreement is very common between freelance writers and magazines or other compilation or collective works.
