What happens during a civil ceremony?
Q. Can you talk me through what happens in the average civil ceremony? A. The exact kind of civil ceremony will be dependent on the Superintendent Registrar in the District in which you are marrying. Most offices have a basic marriage ceremony, some allowing more variety than others do. The ceremony will usually be discussed with the couple in advance, because any music, readings and vows have to approved by the Superintendent Registrar. A copy of the ceremony we use in Cambridge is available on our web site at www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk On the wedding day the couple may be seen separately or together, depending on local arrangements, to check their details and pay the fee(s) due. The rest of the wedding party will then be invited into the marriage room. By prior arrangement it may be possible for someone to video the wedding if you so wish. Most places do not allow photographs to be taken during the ceremony itself but will allow plenty of time after the register has been signed. There
