What if my child with Down syndrome wont stay in her car safety seat, booster seat, or seat belt?

Children with Down syndrome often have decreased muscle tone and loose ligaments which can make their joints very flexible. You may have heard this called double-jointed. This may make it easier for them to wiggle out of her car seat. If your child does this, make sure the harness straps are tight with the chest clip in the middle of the chest. If you child still gets out, you may need a different seat. If your child is big enough to use a booster seat or safety belt but doesnt keep it on, you may need to use a travel vest or a large medical car safety seat.
