WHAT IS A LETTER OF INQUIRY?
A Letter of Inquiry expresses interest in applying for a MAZON grant. It also provides an overview of the agency’s work and/or the program for which funding is sought. As part of MAZON’s two-step application process, organizations interested in applying for a MAZON grant must first submit a Letter of Inquiry. From the information provided in the Letter of Inquiry, MAZON staff determines whether or not an organization will be invited to submit a full proposal for consideration for funding.
A Letter of Inquiry is an abbreviated request for funding that is sent to MHC prior to a request for a Major Grant. The letter briefly outlines the project and the funding request, in enough detail for MHC to determine whether a full proposal should be submitted. Applicants with projects that fit into MHC funding guidelines will be given the opportunity to submit a full proposal. Being requested to submit a full proposal does not guarantee project funding.
A letter of inquiry (LOI) is a brief letter outlining an organization’s activities and its request for funding that is sent to a prospective donor in order to determine whether it would be appropriate to submit a full grant proposal. LOI is typically 2-3 pages, and should loosely follow the format of a full proposal, but should be very concise. Click here for more information on what you should include in a letter of inquiry.
