What is a proxy bid and how do I place one?
A. A Proxy bid is any bid above the next acceptable bid (get more details by clicking here). To place a Proxy bid, simply enter your proxy amount in the bid form on an item page. Once you’ve entered the amount of your bid, you then click the Review Your Bid button and you will see exactly what bids are going to be placed for you. Q. What is a the Auto Extend feature that I see on some items? A. The Auto Extend feature is implemented on ALL ITEMS. If there are bids received on these items within two minutes of the item’s most current close time, the close time will be extended by two minutes. We suggest that if you really want the item that you either enter a proxy bid or check it frequently. Q. How do Auction proceeds support Rocky Mountain PBS? A. The revenue generated through our Auction helps pay for quality programming, such as Nova, Frontline, Sesame Street, Spirit of Colorado, and Colorado State of Mind on Rocky Mountain PBS. Q.
A ‘proxy bid’ is a bid where the system participates on your behalf in competing with other bidders. It is used automatically. When you place a bid for an item, you are entering the maximum amount of money you are willing to pay for it. The system will increase the *current* bid for you up to the maximum amount you entered. Once bidding has exceeded that amount, it will no longer increase your bid. For example: The current bid for an item is $10.00 and you decide to place a bid on the item in the amount of $20.00. The bid increases by one dollar to $11.00 and you are now the high bidder. This amount will not increase unless someone else places a bid on the item, too. So if another bidder places a bid of $14.00 on the item, your bid will be raised just enough to beat them by a single increment (in this case, it would be $15.00). Once the bidding has reached more than the $20.00 you entered as your maximum, the system will stop increasing your bid and the person who placed the higher bid
