What is a shipping memo?
Shipping memo forms are designed to tell Shipping and Receiving personnel where to ship materials, how to ship them, and what account to charge for the freight costs. Unless the Web-based Federal Express shipping documents are produced and accompany the package, no package will be sent by Shipping and Receiving without a shipping memo. Shipping and Receiving personnel will distribute copies of the form to the sender to inform them that the item has been sent. They will also distribute copies to Accounting as authorization to pay the shipping costs. Shipping memos are also used for items that are to be picked up by a vendor or hand delivered to a vendor. The individual picking up the item or to whom the item is delivered signs the Shipping Memo as a record of delivery.
