When I teach this topic, I always call the vacuole the “doggie bag” because once the cell uses up it’s food needed to power the cell, it puts the extra food in its vacuole. It also helps students understand why a plant’s vacuole is bigger, because it’s always getting food from the sun, while an animal cell needs to use the food asap. I call the endoplasmic reticulum the “railway system” because nutrients always travel on this pathway throughout the cell. Additionally, I call the Golgi Bodies the “Taxi Cabs” because they transport the materials to the endoplasmic reticulum. I always call the Mitochondria the “powerhouse” because it makes the energy for the cell. Unfortunately, I don’t have anything for Lysosome. Sorry. Good luck!
