What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is a holistic therapy that uses essential oils to improve one’s health and psychological well-being. Essential oils are highly concentrated extracts from the aromatic parts of herbs, flowers, trees, bark and grasses. They have been in use for thousands of years. They are totally natural substances that have the ability to positively influence the mind and body. Q. What’s the difference between a fragrance oil and an essential oil? Essential oils are naturally concentrated essences of plants, roots, flowers, leaves, fruits, etc. Fragrance oils are man-made fragrances, which alot of fragrances are combined with man-made and natural essences to create that perfect fragrance. Per our customers requests, Peaceful Scents uses both fragrance oils and essential oils. Aromatherapy is a gentle but powerful healing art that uses therapeutic grade pure essential oils in a way that can positively affect our physical, emotional and mental health. Certified Aromatherapists will recommend massage (introduction through the skin) and inhalation (introduction through the respiratory system) as the most effective methods of introducing these wonderfully balanced and Holistic gifts from nature into the human body. For massage, a good quality carrier oil, lotion, cream or salve is used to deliver the essential oils to the area needed. For inhalation, a simmering pot, diffuser, hot tub, sauna – or something as simple as a common cotton ball is used. While modern science can in some cases duplicate the fragrance of some essential oils, they have been unable to duplicate the benefits each can deliver. Aromatherapy is an ancient practice of using pure essential oils and other natural aromas to promote overall health and improve the physical and emotional state of an individual. Aromatherapy could be used as a great healing and therapeutic tool. The healing qualities of aromatic plants are achieved partly by using their molecular structure and physical properties and partly by using their aroma (most volatile molecules) to stimulate emotional levels. Please note that synthetic fragrances and artificial aromatic ingredients do not provide the therapeutic benefits the essential oils and natural ingredients do.
