What is involved in being a cocktail waitress?

You need a good knowledge of drinks so that you can identify them as you serve. Believe me, I’ve had cocktail waitresses that couldn’t tell a scotch and water from a rum and coke. You need a good sense of humor, excellent reflexes, good eyesight and be able to walk and stand on heels for hours. You need to be able to laugh at stupid jokes, endure endless flirting, but know where to draw the line when it comes knowing the difference between flirting and harassment. You need to view women clients as customers, not competition and you need to expect some degree of disrespect (like the first answer. What judgmental crap). The hours are crappy, but with a good combination of the above, you can make serious tips. Oh yes, and never piss off the bartender.

I want to be honest they discriminate. If your working at a club or high profile resturant they are going to want a waitress that looks good and has a good personality to make sales of alcohol. My girlfriend used to work the beer tub at a club the pay wasn’t that good.
