What is the best time to water lawns and gardens?
The ideal time to water is in the early morning, preferably between 5 and 9 a.m. This allows the plants to absorb the maximum amount of water and minimizes water runoff. Watering during the day wastes this precious resource as some of it will evaporate from the increased heat during the day. Watering after 6 p.m. is the next best time if you can’t water in the morning, although late night watering is more likely to lead to development of plant diseases and fungal growth. Ideally watering should be done less frequently but more deeply. See our Lawn & Garden care guide for more details.
