What is the Drake Equation?
The Drake Equation, originally developed as an agenda for a 1961 scientific meeting, provides a way of estimating the number of intelligent civilizations existing in our galaxy that might be broadcasting signals. Among the factors considered are the number of sun-like stars in our galaxy, the fraction of habitable planets supporting communicating civilizations, etc. When these various factors are multiplied together one can compute N, the number of transmitting civilizations. Unfortunately, many of the factors are poorly known, so estimates of N range from one (we are alone in the Galaxy) to thousands or even millions.
The Drake Equation is an equation by radio astronomer Frank Drake. The Drake Equation was originally presented to a conference of astronomical scientists in 1961 gathered to discuss extra terrestrial life forms and the scientific search for extraterrestrial life using radio signals that we have all commonly come to know as S.E.T.I. If extraterrestrial life is listening in on earth’s radio frequencies we can only hope that they discover something as artful and sophisticated as This Morn Omina! Many of us have been awaiting the newest release by This Morn Omina The Drake Equation ever since hearing their last stellar album Le Serpent Blanc Le Serpent Rouge. In an interview with Heathen Harvest, that can be found in the interview section of Heathen Harvest, This Morn Omina discussed plans to modify the bands sound to include live percussion to replace the sampled rhythmic sections so many of us grooved to on Le Serpent Blanc / Rouge. The Drake Equation demonstrates a clear evolution since
It’s an attempt to quantify the probability of alien worlds. It was deviced in 1961 by Frank Drake, a radio astronomer who, the previous year (Project Ozma), had been the first to listen to alien radio signals, with the 25-meter dish of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, West Virginia.
