What is the fall maintenance procedure for evaporative coolers?

0

Is it time to shut down those evaporative coolers yet? If it’s already October, and the weather is starting to cool down, it just might be. If you follow these basic steps for preventative maintenance each fall, then you will thank yourself by May when 100-degree temperatures return. These guidelines are specifically for conventional evaporative coolers (four-inlet type). However, the idea is the same for all units: Clan them well and shut them down when they’re not in use. Before you shut the unit off: • Check water flow and pump operation. • Check hoses and spider arms for any blockage. • Check the float valve for proper operation. After you shut the unit off: • Remove inlet panels and remove old pads. • Drain the water out of the pan and shut off the water supply valve. • Using a good stiff brush and vinegar, clean out and remove any mineral build-up from the panels and the inside of the cabinet. • Scrape and wire brush any loose paint. • Prime and re-paint with good quality enamel
