What kinds of things does bioethics address?
In order to more easily handle the many topics in bioethics, some have suggested grouping the issues into three major categories: • Destruction of human life, or “taking” life issues includes: assisted suicide, euthanasia, abortion and infanticide. • Construction of human life, or “making” life issues includes: the various reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), and related technologies such as sperm and egg “donation”, surrogate mothers, artificial wombs, pre-natal genetic diagnosis (PGD), genetic testing, human cloning, embryonic stem cell research, etc. • Reconstruction of human life, or “Faking” life issues, refers to a variety of technologies, often called GRIN technologies, which have the potential to transform human nature. This category also includes Transhumanism, a philosophy which supports efforts to enhance and transform human individuals through such technologies.
