If you do get a shock collar. . . what I would actually do is get the kind with a remote instead of the kind that your dog’s barking is just supposed to set off. It takes a bit more effort on your part, I know, but then you can control when/how strongly the dog gets shocked. Try it out on yourself as well — that way you’ll know exactly what levels equal what level of sensation. A lot of the automatic ones will get set off by all sorts of things other than barking (regardless of what they say. . . it can be hard to differentiate), and this way you can also use it if your dog is doing something else that you don’t want it to be doing. Your dog’s not getting zapped unless you say so, as opposed to if the little box says so. Unless you’re very trigger happy, it’s pretty hard for your dog to get “scorched” accidentally. I’d also advise getting one that has a tone-only option, as you may find that just the noise gets you the results you want once your dog associates the little beepy sound w
