Whats the difference between a CE, CEU, CNE, Credit Hour, Clock Hour, Contact Hour and so on?
• There is NO real difference between the terms.* Different state Boards use different terminology for describing the same type of CE (Continuing Education) requirements – some call them units, some call them credits or contact hours. • CNE is Continuing Nursing Education credits, and the same as CE or CEU. • If you take a “6 Credit /Clock Hour” course from us – that means the course will provide you with 6 Credit Hours, 6 Credit Units, 6 CE, 6 CNE, 6 CEU, 6 Clock Hours, 6 Contact Hours (*or .6 of your continuing education requirement). • CEUs are the same as CEs or CNEs for 95% of all Boards. *HOWEVER, a few Boards do use a confusing decimal Unit system, where 6 out of 20 required clock hours/credits would equal only .6 out of 2.0 CEUs. Therefore, for these Boards, it would take 10 of our credits/clock hours to equal 1 CEU.
