Whats the difference between “hypnosis” and “guided imagery?”
The hypnotist uses a variety of direct statements and suggestions such as, “You feel very relaxed. You increase your relaxation with every breath.” These statements help bring you to an open, relaxed hypnotic state. Like hypnosis, guided imagery uses such positive affirmations, but it also uses mental pictures and metaphors to help you enter that state. In guided imagery, you can experience a visual journey. You may hear such statements as, “You walk along a forest path and listen to the rustling of the trees overhead.” Like hypnosis, guided imagery is used to promote healing, personal change and development.
