You may have seen or heard advertisements for two sampling initiatives being carried out simultaneously by the Guelph Waterworks. The first is the Legislated Community Lead Testing Program. This program is carried out to fulfill the regulatory requirements of the Ontario Regulation 170/03 made under the Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002 which mandates municipalities to conduct additional sampling at residential and non-residential buildings. The requirement of this program is that sampling must be conducted at a specified number of residential, non-residential and distribution system (hydrant) locations during winter conditions (December 15 to April 15) and during summer conditions (June 15 to October 15). The sampling protocol and reporting requirements are dictated by the Ministry of the Environment.
