The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has a section of their web page devoted to tornado facts. In addition, their web page has information on the “Enhanced Fujita Scale” ratings for tornadoes that take effect February 1, 2007. For information on tornado shelters go to the Federal Emergency Management Agency web page. FEMA has published Taking Shelter from the Storm: Building a Safe Room Inside Your House and the National Performance Criteria for Tornado Shelters which are available in full-text on the Internet. NOAA has a slide presentation on their web site showing the reasons you should NEVER seek shelter from a tornado under a highway overpass.
