Where is the Best Dive Bar in Nashville, Tennessee?
I love how this bar is ‘hidden’, keeps away all the tourists! Went on a Saturday- and was kinda disappointed of the crowd. It wasn’t completly dead, but not crowded- but i just expected more. They have a Jukebox, which is a cool addition. Music is kind of loud if you’re just sitting around and chatting, but it’s not that bad. The beer is high. That’s my only complaint. They make a KILER Singapore Sling, the best drink ever- i recommend everyone try it! I can see where it can very easily become a stand up bar, as there isn’t really that much seating. Well- i guess it’s sufficent, since there is a pool table in the middle of the floor. I loved it there, and i’m gonna go back here soon. Oh, the bar food is amazing!! I am a Villager “Regular”. It’s my favorite pub. However, since moving to the country (Way Out In The Country) I don’t get to stop by as often as I’d like. Only because I still have business and errands to run in Nashville, I stop in when I can to say, “Hi!” My excuse is, “Well, ya know, I want to wait on Rush Hour traffic to clear up before heading out of town.” (Nevermind that I always time it perfectly!) Anyway, the absolute real reason I stop by The Villager is for an ever so brief hour of conversation with the locals, an ice cold drink, an awesome sandwich, and a fun game of darts. when i was in high school, springwater’s 21+ policy on shows was the bane of my existence. it has some of the most eclectic but fantastic booking among nashville venues — from well-known indie bands like scout niblett and wolf eyes to local lesser-knowns like a poet named revolver (plus impromptu performances by the likes of dave berman and will oldham). plus the stage is low, the sight-lines aren’t awkward, the shows are cheap, and, well, everybody likes a dive bar with a porch and pool tables. drawbacks: poor turnouts for good bands, and parking in that gravel pit of a parking lot.Pros + booking, cheap shows & beer, laid-back atmosphereCons – the parking lot, poor turnout
We too stopped in at Tootsies because of it’s reputation. It can be a little shocking that it is so small and rundown, but if you are willing to appreciate it’s history- you’ll have a great time. We heard some great bands there, namely Jake Mauer and Joanna Smith. Both were excellent artists and knew how to put on a great show! On top of that though, they both had an amazing fiddle player. I believer her name was Kari Nelson. Wow. That girl can play and entertain a crowd…. when she started rocking out Devil went down to Georgia- the crowd literally doubled! We had a great time and stayed for the entire gig. Give the place a chance and enjoy the night out!Pros + great music, great fiddle player, good drinksCons – crowded
