From a data transmission perspective, UWB is an intriguing possibility if you are designing a closed system that does not depend on multi-vendor interoperability. For those of you who are looking to go to market soon with WiMedia devices, it might be best to stick with the currently approved OFDM narrowband systems and look to UWB for the next generation products. For this reason alone, it behooves the proponents of UWB to settle on some common modulation schemes and to close ranks around an interoperable model. However, this type of cooperation often take years to take shape and result in products that meet the interoperability criteria.
