Who are the coaches?
There are thousands of people on the Internet and in the phone book calling themselves “Personal Coaches”. There are no regulatory agencies governing Coaches as there are with therapists, physicians, or any other well-established field. The backgrounds of Personal Development Coaches range from PhDs in Psychology, Masters in Marriage and Family Counseling, Organizational Psychologists, Corporate Trainers, Motivational Speakers, all the way to the person with no education or training but who hangs a sign calling himself a Coach. Because there is no required certification for Personal Development Coaches, there are many unqualified individuals giving advice to unsuspecting clients who pay good money for “professional” advice; only to receive advice that is as sophisticated as advice from the next-door neighbor. Because of this, Nightingale Conant has developed an extensive screening process.
