A "registered agent" is designated to receive important mail sent by the state, such as annual report statements, and tax documents sent by the state’s department of taxation. A registered agent must either be the physical address and name of an individual living in the state of incorporation or qualification with a valid street address (no PO Boxes) or a company such as MyLLC.com or IncorpServices.com, authorized to serve as an agent. The registered agent is designated to accept service of process on behalf of the corporation; when a company receives a Service of Process, this document is often delivered by local law enforcement.
