Who is the celebrant?
The person that usually performs the ceremony is the mayor or another local council official. It is possible in some wedding locations to choose the celebrant, the person who marries the couple. This person has to be an Italian citizen and cannot be related to either the bride or groom. If you have someone in mind to do the ceremony for you, an old friend or your Italian teacher, let us know so we can organise the relevant documents and check with the municipal that you have permission in their location.
