Who is the first black female figure skater champion?
It depends on what “type” of champion you mean: Debi Thomas was the first African American women’s figure skater to capture the U.S. and World Championship in 1986 . . . then won the bronze medal at the Olympic in 1988 (first African-American to win a medal at the Winter Olympics). As part of a pair team, Tai Babiloni (with partner Randy Gardner) won the first of five U.S. pairs championships from 1976-1980. They were the World Pairs Champions in 1979.
