Who qualifies for Hospice Care?
Anyone who is dealing with a life limiting illness. Anyone whose Doctor feels that the illness might have a life expectancy of 6 months of less if the illness continuous on is normal course. We would be glad to work with you and your Doctor to determine if your illness meets Hospice Criteria before moving forward with any care. Anyone who has an illness that the Doctor says theres no further curative treatment available or you no longer want to pursue active curative treatment for whatever reason. Anyone who wants comfort measures only. Statistics show that early admission to hospice greatly improves quality of life for the patient and caregivers because the patient receives regular pain and symptom management leading to overall consistent comfort. Statistics also show that approximately 10% of residents receiving care in a nursing home may qualify for Hospice Care.
Hospice care is for any person who has a life-threatening or terminal illness. Most reimbursement sources require a prognosis of six (6) months or less if the illness runs its normal course. Patients with both cancer and non-cancer illnesses are eligible to receive hospice care. All hospices consider the patient and family together as the unit of care.
