Why alternating current is used in electroplating and what are acs advantages?

Electroplating wont work with AC. Electroplating relies on attracting ions (charged atoms) from a solution onto the metal surface. If you use AC, some of the ions will be attracted, then when the polarity changes direction, they will go back into solution! I dont know of any books on the subject specifically (there are many though, have a look at your local library), but wikipedia has a reasonable article: http://en.wikipedia.
