Why do most women wear skirts when attending the Greek Church?

Women traditionally in Greece wear skirts when going to church as a sign of respect. Up until recently, no woman will think of going to church with trousers. Anyway is disrespectful to do so and visiting monasteries is strictly forbidden to do so.
