Why does the PSD300 duplicate at only 2X speed?
The PSD300 remains in the audio red book standard when duplicating at 2X. This requires the CD and CDR drives to spin at 2 times run speed, which doubles the sampling frequency from 44.1khz to 88.2 khz. This is the highest transfer rate that bit-by-bit coping can reliably do. In the case of CDR duplicators and computer drives, the data stays in data format during transfer to a working file and is then transferred packet by packet which will render a higher transfer speed, equating to faster record times, but does not conform to the optimal red book standard.
