Why does USD no longer accept credit card payments for tuition and fee?

0

The merchant fees incurred by USD in order to accept credit card payments have increased annually, and have become prohibitively expensive (approximately $800,000 in 2003-2004). The high operating cost of accepting credit cards is funded by tuition and fees, and as such, increases in credit card fees are ultimately passed on to all students, not just those students paying by credit card. Ceasing to accept credit cards for tuition and fees is in the best long-term interest of USD’s student and family population as a whole, and the University. The cost savings to the University will be invested in other student services and academic needs.
