Allowing check up events were specifically discussed at length by members of the National CPS Board. They felt strongly that only structured on-going education should be included as CEUs. Because check-up events cannot be structured (ex: you may: only have 3 seat checks, only see booster seats, or only one brand, they do not count as CEU’s. Assisting families in feeling competent and confident in their skills to install their children’s car seat or properly wear their seat belt is the desired outcome of a technician’s training and experience. This follows the Learn, Practice, Explain core of the course. Continuing education to keep the technician updated and current in a field of continuously changing technology is a must and needed to maintain this public trust. The parent or caregivers understanding and ability to follow the recommendations of a nationally certified technician are what are important not the number of seat checks the technician completes.
