Why was George Washington famous for?
G. Washington was the commanding general of the US Revolutionary War. (One that lost more battles than he won) He was a colonel in the British Army during the “French and Indian War” decades before. He was also our first president. He was also a member of the 1st Continental Congress. But, the key reason he was a great man: He was offered the monarchy and he was wise enough to turn it down. Through that act, more than any other single man’s act, he set the tone for the US leadership. He voluntarily relinquished control of the army after the Rev. War. He voluntarily stepped down from the highest executive role in the country. He voluntarily refused to accept any “American Crown”. In this way, he set a new course for the US. Without George Washington, we would have been a very different country today.
George Washington at First was so famous for accepting the Command of an Army that HAD NOTHING and was able to hold it together and not give up until he did cause the MOST POWERFUL ARMY IN THE WORLD to stop fighting! (England) After the War, he did resign his Command of the Army and did want to return to his Home and stay there BUT! After he was elected as the First President of the United States, he did accept the JOB for 2 Full terms and did try to lead the New Country into doing what it had to do to Remain! After the Two Terms as President (he could have stayed for more but he wanted to retire home finally) he did retire to his home and only lived 3 more years. He is one man who took alot of Nothing and did help Make Something out of it. He also was the First Man to Hold both of these Jobs for a New Born Country!! That is why he is know as “The Father of Our Country.
