Why wouldn Michigan want to comply with the Adam Walsh Act?
Substantive and administrative issues exist with the Adam Walsh Act. Eight states that have attempted to comply with the Act, but none were approved as meeting the requirements for compliance. Implementation and on-going expenses resulting from the act are very costly. Efficacy issues exist with sex offender registries in general. A New Jersey study found that “given the lack of demonstrated effect …. researchers are hard-pressed to determine that the escalating costs are justifiable” (Zgoba, et.a!’ 2008). An increasing number of organizations and states are recommending AGAINST implementation of the Adam Walsh Act.
