CAN TMJ CAUSE TOOTH SENSITIVITY?
TMJ can cause teeth to become fractured. When a tooth is fractured, it will be sensitive to biting pressure and to cold things. If you are having bleeding gums, your dentist should have cleaned your teeth and advised you to floss daily. If he/she did not, see another dentist for a second opinion. We often make night guards for patients who clench their teeth in their sleep. If they have severe TMJ, we refer them to a specialist who only treats TMJ. Tingling in your mouth can also be caused by problems with your stomach and digestive system. I suggest seeing another dentist for a second opinion and possibly seeing a specialist in the field of TMJ.
Theresa is correct, as the cause of TMJ is very often tooth grinding, which is known not only to cause sensitivity through tooth surface loss, but also accelerates gingival recession, which would expose sensitive areas which would normaly be below the gum I have seen many tmj patients over the years and have come to find that it can cause all sorts of unexplained aches and pains, in seemingly unrelated areas.
