Do Actuaries have to study Actuarial Science to become an Actuary?

You don’t have to major in actuarial sciences to be an actuary. My roommate’s father majored in accounting and is an actuary. Statistics would be an excellent choice to major in for a future actuary. All you need to do is take some basic intro economics classes, financial and managerial accounting, finance courses, and some heavy mathematics courses like probability, linear algebra, stats, and calculus. As far as how the job is… it is what you make of it. If you love numbers, then you will love being an actuary. I forgot to mention, regardless of the major you choose, you will have to pass many exams to become certified to be an actuary.
